The pancreas is an organ located in the abdomen, just behind the stomach. It is surrounded by other organs, including the small intestine and liver. It measures up to 10 inches long and spreads horizontally across the abdomen.

The pancreas houses the exocrine glands, where most of the enzymes important for digestion are produced. These enzymes help break down food, helping the body digest carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.

The pancreas also plays a big role in regulating blood sugar. Two main pancreatic hormones include insulin, which helps lower blood sugar, and glucagon, which raises blood sugar levels. That is why people with diabetes are advised to take proper care of their pancreas.
